Which redaction method is safe?
For text such as names, account numbers, passwords or addresses, use a solid black box. Researchers have shown that light blur and coarse pixelation of text can sometimes be reversed or guessed, especially for numbers and known fonts. A solid box removes the pixels completely.
Pixelation and blur work well for faces, license plates and backgrounds where you want the image to look natural. Use a high strength for anything sensitive.
The edits are flattened into the downloaded image: the hidden pixels are replaced, not covered by a separate layer, and the exported file has no EXIF metadata such as GPS location. Your image is processed only in your browser.
