How to edit a PDF online

  1. Click Open (or drop a file) to load a PDF. Thumbnails of every page appear on the left.
  2. Pick a tool from the toolbar: Add text, Draw, Highlight, shapes, Whiteout or Image, then click or drag on the page. Use Select to move, resize or delete what you added; double-click text to edit it.
  3. Organize pages from the sidebar or toolbar: drag thumbnails to reorder, rotate, delete, merge other PDFs, add pages from images or blank pages, or extract selected pages to a new file.
  4. Add page numbers, a watermark or document properties from the toolbar. Turn on Compress, Grayscale, Flatten or Protect if you want them, then click Download to save your edited PDF.

A private, full-featured PDF editor

Most online PDF editors upload your document to a server. This one runs entirely in your browser: pages are displayed with Mozilla's PDF.js and your edits are written into a new PDF with pdf-lib on your own device, so contracts, statements and forms stay private.

Your original pages are copied into the downloaded file unchanged, so existing text stays sharp and searchable. Text you add is real PDF text, shapes and drawings are vector graphics, and images are embedded at full resolution. Whiteout places an opaque white box over content; for sensitive information, remember the original content is still in the file underneath, so use our PDF to JPG tool afterward if it must be truly removed.

Changing the existing words inside a PDF is not supported, because PDFs store text as positioned glyphs rather than editable paragraphs. The usual fix is to cover the old text with Whiteout and type the replacement with Add text. For single tasks there are also focused tools: merge, split, organize, crop, page numbers, watermark and PDF to text.

Compress, protect and finish your PDF in one place

The last group of toolbar buttons prepares the file you download. Compress recompresses images to make scans and photo-heavy PDFs much smaller. Grayscale saves a black-and-white copy, with a preview right in the editor, and text stays sharp and searchable. Flatten locks the original PDF's form fields and comments into the page. Protect adds a password with AES-256 encryption and can block printing, copying or editing. These options apply when you click Download, so you can switch them on and off at any time and undo them like any other change.

Blanks finds empty pages, such as the blank backs of double-sided scans, and offers to delete them. To images saves your edited pages as PNG or JPG files. Password-protected PDFs open after you enter their password, so the editor also works as a way to remove a password you know.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF editor really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, watermark or page limit.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your PDF is opened and saved entirely in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

Not directly. Cover the text with Whiteout and add new text on top, which looks the same in the final file.

Can I combine several PDFs?

Yes. Click Merge and choose one or more PDFs to add them to the end, or use Add pages to put pages from other PDFs or images after the current page. Reorder them in the sidebar and download one file.

Can the editor make my PDF smaller or add a password?

Yes. Click Compress to shrink images, or Protect to add a password, before you download. Both apply to the downloaded file, along with all your other edits.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes, though a larger screen is easier for detailed editing. Use full screen mode for more room.

What about password-protected PDFs?

You will be asked for the password when you open the file. The downloaded copy opens without a password, unless you add one with Protect.
