Tips for the best results
For photos on websites, a quality setting of 70–85% is the sweet spot: files get dramatically smaller while looking identical to the original at normal viewing sizes. Going below 60% introduces visible blocky artifacts, so reserve low settings for thumbnails only. Note that the output is always JPEG, which means transparent areas in PNGs will become white — if you need transparency, use the image converter tool instead and keep the PNG format. Because compression happens entirely in your browser, there is no upload wait and no file-size limit imposed by a server; even very large photos process in seconds on a modern phone or laptop.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your image never leaves your device. Compression runs locally in your browser, which also means there are no queues and no file-size limits.
What quality setting should I use?
For web photos, 75–85% is ideal. For email attachments where size matters most, 60–70% works. Avoid going under 50% unless the image is a small thumbnail.
Does it work with PNG files?
Yes, you can upload PNGs, but the output is JPEG, so transparency becomes white. For the biggest savings on PNG screenshots and graphics, JPEG output at 80% is usually excellent.
Is there a limit on how many images I can compress?
No limit. Compress as many images as you like, one at a time, completely free.
