Free Image Pixelator
Redact faces, plates, and sensitive details — pixelate or blur any image right in your browser.
Tip: click and drag on the image to pixelate just that region.
How to use the image pixelator
- Upload the image you need to redact.
- Drag the block-size slider — bigger blocks hide more.
- Either pixelate the whole image, or drag a rectangle to redact one region.
- Download the redacted PNG.
Redact properly or don't bother
Pixelation only protects privacy if the blocks are big enough — small pixel blocks on a face can sometimes be reversed with AI upscaling, so when in doubt go bigger, or use solid black bars for maximum certainty. Always redact the original file and share only the redacted copy; never post the original "just in case." Remember that metadata can leak too — phone photos often embed GPS coordinates, so strip EXIF data (our EXIF viewer shows you what's hiding in there) before publishing sensitive images. And redact everything identifying: faces, license plates, house numbers, name badges, and reflections in mirrors or windows.
Frequently asked questions
Is pixelation reversible?
With large enough blocks, effectively no. But tiny pixelation can sometimes be partially reversed by AI, so use big blocks for sensitive content.
Pixelate or blur — which is better?
Both work. Pixelation is more obviously "redacted"; heavy blur looks more natural in photos. Use whichever fits the context.
Does this upload my photo?
No. Everything happens on a canvas in your browser. The original never leaves your device.
What format is the download?
PNG, which preserves the redaction exactly. JPEG recompression is fine too, but PNG is lossless.
