Image resizing tips

Resizing down (making images smaller) is almost always safe and is the single best thing you can do for web performance — a 4000px phone photo displayed at 800px wastes roughly 95% of its bytes. Resizing up is a different story: the software has to invent pixels, so results get soft quickly past 150–200%. Always keep the aspect ratio locked unless you deliberately want to crop or stretch; unlocking it distorts faces and logos. Work from the original file, not a previously resized copy — every resize generation loses a little quality. And remember that PNG is lossless but heavy for photos; for photographic images, convert to JPEG afterwards for much smaller files.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing reduce quality?

Downsizing keeps quality excellent. Upsizing beyond about 2x gets blurry because pixels must be invented.

What is aspect ratio lock?

It keeps width and height proportional, so the image never stretches or squashes.

What format is the download?

PNG, which is lossless. Convert to JPEG afterward if you need smaller photographic files.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No — the image never leaves your device. Resizing happens on a canvas in your browser.
