How to split an image for Instagram

  1. Drop in your image and choose “Instagram profile grid” or “Seamless carousel”.
  2. For a grid, set how many rows you want (each row is three posts). For a carousel, set how many slides. Drag the preview to choose which part of the image stays in frame, and use Zoom to crop tighter.
  3. Click “Download tiles”. The files are numbered in the order to post them.

Posting a profile grid in the right order

Instagram shows your newest post at the top left of your profile, so a grid has to be posted backwards: the bottom-right tile first, finishing with the top-left. The numbers on the preview and in the file names follow that order, so just post 01, 02, 03 and so on. Since 2025 the profile grid shows posts as 3:4 portrait rectangles, which is why that is the default tile shape; choose 1:1 if you prefer squares.

Seamless carousels

A seamless (panorama) carousel spreads one wide picture across several slides of a single post, so swiping reveals the next part. Choose the number of slides and a tile shape, usually 4:5 portrait or 1:1 square, and the image is cropped to fit exactly. Upload the slides in order, 01 first.

Other uses

Choose “Custom rows and columns” to cut an image into a printable poster across several sheets, make jigsaw-style puzzle cards, or slice a sprite sheet. With “Keep the original” the image is divided without cropping and each tile keeps its original pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Will the tiles line up perfectly?

Yes. Every tile is cut from the same image at exactly the same size, so they join seamlessly on a grid or carousel.

Why is part of my image missing?

To make equal tiles of the chosen shape, the image is cropped to the overall grid shape. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or pick “Keep the original” to avoid cropping.

What size are the tiles?

By default each tile is 1080 pixels wide, the width Instagram displays. The height follows from the tile shape, for example 1080 × 1440 for 3:4.

Does posting a grid affect anything else?

Each tile is a normal post, so delete or archive one later and the grid will shift. Plan the grid in rows of three.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser tab, so your files never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.
