How the reaction time test works

  1. Click the box to begin. It turns red: wait.
  2. After a random delay the box turns green. Click, tap or press space immediately.
  3. Repeat five times for your average. Clicking too early counts as a false start.

What is a good reaction time?

Simple visual reaction times for adults average around 200–250 milliseconds in tests like this one. Under 200 ms is fast; gamers and athletes often reach 150–180 ms. Results above 300 ms are common on phones, slower displays or wireless input devices.

Your measured time includes your monitor's refresh delay and input lag from your mouse or touchscreen, which can add 10–50 ms. Compare results on the same device for consistency.

Reaction time slows with tiredness, distraction, alcohol and age, and improves a little with practice, sleep and warm-up. Use the average of several tries rather than a single lucky result.
