How to use this template

Type the month at the top, then list every recurring bill: rent or mortgage, utilities, phone, internet, insurance, subscriptions, minimum debt payments — everything with a due date. Enter the amount due and the due date for each, and leave the paid flag at N. The status column immediately shows Pending for upcoming bills and OVERDUE in red for anything already past due.

As you pay bills through the month, flip the paid flag to Y and enter the payment date. Paid rows turn green, the paid total climbs, and the outstanding figure shrinks. The overdue counter at the bottom is your scoreboard: if it is ever above zero, that bill jumps to the top of today's list.

Save a dated copy each month — “bills-2026-01”, “bills-2026-02” — and you build a payment history that proves on-time payment if a servicer ever misapplies one. Ten minutes of setup, two minutes a week, zero late fees.

Automate every fixed bill you can — rent, insurance, loan payments — and let the tracker watch the variable ones like utilities and credit cards. Automation plus tracking is the complete system: autopay guarantees on-time payment, and the sheet guarantees you notice when a variable bill jumps. Review the outstanding figure every payday; it should always be moving toward zero.

Frequently asked questions

Is this bill tracker really free?

Yes. Download it, use it forever, no account or payment. It is supported the same way as our free tools — advertising on the site.

How do the overdue alerts work?

Any bill still marked unpaid whose due date has passed is flagged OVERDUE in red automatically. Mark it paid and the flag clears to green.

Can I track bills due on different days?

Yes — each row has its own due date, so the 1st-of-month rent and the 23rd-of-month phone bill live happily side by side.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open with Google Sheets; the formulas, dropdowns, and conditional formatting carry over. It also works in LibreOffice.
