Free Meeting Minutes Word Template
Decisions made in meetings have a half-life of about a day unless someone writes them down. This minutes template captures who was there, what was discussed and decided, and — the part that actually matters — who owns each action item and when it is due.
What's inside

- Discussion table: topic, summary of key points, and the decision reached

How to use this template
Fill in the header as people arrive — noting who is absent matters as much as who is present when decisions get questioned later. During the meeting, capture the discussion in shorthand; you are recording conclusions, not transcribing.
The golden rule: every action item gets an owner and a due date before the meeting ends. "Someone should look into that" is how things die. Push gently in the moment: "Great — who’s taking that, and by when?"
Send the minutes within 24 hours while memories are fresh, and ask for corrections. Once confirmed, file them where the team can find them — minutes nobody can locate later might as well not exist.
Frequently asked questions
Is this meeting minutes template really free?
Yes — download and use it for every meeting at no cost, no signup.
What is the difference between an agenda and minutes?
The agenda is the plan before the meeting; the minutes are the record after. They pair perfectly — grab our free meeting agenda template for the "before" half.
How detailed should minutes be?
Decisions and action items in full; discussion summarized. Nobody needs a transcript, but everyone needs to know what was decided and who does what next.
Who should take the minutes?
Rotate the role or assign it explicitly — the meeting organizer taking minutes while facilitating usually means both jobs suffer.
