How to rotate or flip an image

  1. Drop one or more images into the box.
  2. Click Rotate left or right to turn by 90°, or Flip to mirror the image. To straighten a tilted photo, drag the Straighten slider until the horizon or a doorframe looks level.
  3. Choose the file format and click Download. Several images download together as a ZIP file.

Straightening a crooked photo

Turning a photo by a few degrees leaves empty triangles in the corners. With “Crop to remove empty corners” ticked, the tool keeps the largest rectangle that fits inside the rotated image, with the same shape as the original, so there are no gaps. Untick it to keep the whole picture and fill the corners with white, black, a color of your choice, or transparency (PNG and WebP only).

For 90° turns and flips nothing is cropped or resized: every pixel is kept, only moved.

Why do photos appear sideways?

Phones save photos the way the sensor sees them and add an orientation tag telling apps how to turn them. Some websites and older programs ignore the tag, so the photo shows sideways. This tool reads the tag, shows the photo the right way up, and saves the result with the rotation applied to the pixels, so it looks right everywhere.

Flip vs rotate

Rotating turns the picture around its centre, like turning a printed photo on a table. Flipping mirrors it: a horizontal flip swaps left and right, which is handy for selfies where text appears backwards; a vertical flip turns it upside down as a mirror image.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating reduce the quality?

Saving as PNG keeps every pixel exactly. JPG and WebP are re-compressed, so use the High or Maximum quality setting to keep any change invisible.

Can I rotate many photos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; the same rotation and flip apply to all of them, and they download as one ZIP file.

Is the photo’s location and camera data kept?

No. The saved image is a fresh copy without the original metadata, which also removes GPS location information.

Can I rotate a HEIC photo from an iPhone?

Convert it first with the HEIC to JPG converter, then rotate it here.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser tab, so your files never leave your device and nothing is stored on a server.
