How to use the word unscrambler
- Type your letters. Use ? for a blank tile; up to two blanks work well.
- Optionally add a pattern: st* for words starting with "st", *ing for words ending in "ing", or *ea* for words containing "ea".
- For Wordle, switch tabs and enter your green, yellow and gray letters to see the remaining possible answers.
How the unscrambler finds words
The tool checks your letters against a dictionary of about 168,000 English words, based on the public-domain ENABLE word list used by many word games, and lists every word that can be built from them, grouped by length with the longest first. Each letter can be used only as many times as you typed it; a ? can stand in for any letter.
In Wordle mode, green letters must be in their exact spot, yellow letters must appear somewhere else in the word, and gray letters must not appear (unless the same letter is also green or yellow). Results are sorted so words using the most common letters appear first, which tend to be the most useful next guesses.
Some valid game words are obscure, and official dictionaries for Scrabble, Words With Friends and Wordle differ slightly, so a listed word may occasionally be rejected by a particular game. Offensive words are left out.
