How to use this template
List every debt with its starting balance, APR, and minimum payment in the yellow cells, then enter each current balance. The sheet computes how much you have paid off and shows a progress bar per debt.
Each month, update the Current Balance column after payments post. Watching the bars grow — and debts drop to zero — is the psychological fuel that keeps payoff plans alive.
Enter any extra monthly payment you can afford in the yellow cell near the totals. The rough debt-free estimate updates instantly, showing exactly what an extra $100 or $200 a month buys you in freedom. For a detailed snowball-vs-avalanche comparison, pair this with our free debt payoff calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Should I pay smallest balance or highest interest first?
Highest interest (avalanche) saves the most money; smallest balance (snowball) gives faster wins. This tracker works with either — order your rows by your chosen strategy.
How accurate is the debt-free estimate?
It is a rough projection assuming minimum payments plus your extra amount, ignoring interest compounding subtleties. Treat it as motivational direction, not a promise.
Can I track more than 8 debts?
Yes — insert rows inside the table and copy the formulas from the row above. The totals use SUM ranges, so extend them if you add rows below row 11.
Is my debt data safe?
Completely — it is a file on your device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, which is rather the point of tracking sensitive finances in a spreadsheet.
