How to use the random number generator

  1. Set the lowest and highest numbers allowed. Both ends are included.
  2. Choose how many numbers you want and whether they can repeat.
  3. Click Generate. Use Copy to paste the list into a spreadsheet or message.

True randomness in your browser

This generator uses your browser's cryptographically secure random number source (crypto.getRandomValues) and an unbiased method to map it onto your range, so every number between the minimum and maximum is exactly equally likely. That is stronger than the Math.random function many websites use, and it means results cannot be predicted from earlier draws.

With "No repeats" on, the generator draws without replacement, like pulling numbered balls from a bag. That is what you want for raffle tickets, lottery-style picks, or choosing a random sample of rows to audit. With repeats allowed, each number is drawn independently, like rolling a die many times.

Some quick uses: pick a winning ticket number for a giveaway, choose a random page to study, generate test data, assign random seats, or decide who goes first. For picking names instead of numbers, try the spinner wheel or name picker.

Frequently asked questions

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. A range of 1 to 10 can return both 1 and 10.

How many unique numbers can I get?

As many as there are whole numbers in the range, up to 10,000 at a time. Asking for 20 unique numbers between 1 and 10 is impossible, and the tool will tell you.

Can I use it for a lottery?

You can use it to pick numbers, but no generator can improve your odds. Every combination is equally likely.

Can I generate negative or decimal numbers?

Yes. Use a negative minimum, and choose decimal places for non-whole results.
