Weighted grade
How to calculate a weighted grade
- Enter each grading category from your syllabus, such as homework, quizzes, midterm and final.
- Enter your grade in each category as a percentage, and the weight it carries.
- If some categories have no grades yet, leave them blank; the average uses only the categories with grades.
How weighted grades work
A weighted average multiplies each category's grade by its weight, adds them up, and divides by the total weight. With homework 90% (weight 20), quizzes 85% (20), midterm 78% (25) and final 88% (35), the course grade is (90×20 + 85×20 + 78×25 + 88×35) ÷ 100 = 85.3%.
If not every category has a grade yet, the calculator divides by the weights you have filled in, which matches how most online gradebooks show your current standing. Weights do not have to total 100.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my grade with weights?
Multiply each category grade by its weight, add the results, and divide by the sum of the weights.
What if my weights don't add up to 100?
The calculator divides by the total weight entered, so it still gives the correct average.
What if I have points instead of percentages?
Convert each category to a percentage first: points earned ÷ points possible × 100.
What letter grade is 85%?
A B on a common 10-point scale (83–86.9 is a B).
