How to use this template

Review the preloaded tasks, delete what does not apply (no chimney, no septic) and add anything specific to your home. Adjust frequencies to suit your climate and household.

Enter the date each task was last done. If you do not know, use today's date after you do it. Next-due dates and status fill in automatically.

Check the sheet once a month and sort by Days left. Log every repair and service on the Log tab with the cost and who did it.

The log is valuable when you sell your home, too: a record of regular maintenance reassures buyers and inspectors.

Frequently asked questions

Is this home maintenance template really free?

How often should I change my HVAC filter?

Every 1–3 months for typical 1-inch filters; more often with pets or allergies. Thicker media filters can last 6–12 months.

Cleaning gutters, servicing HVAC, checking for leaks and flushing the water heater prevent many of the costliest repairs.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the formulas, dropdowns and conditional formatting carry over. It also works in LibreOffice Calc and Apple Numbers.
