How to trim an audio file
- Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC file.
- Drag the start and end handles on the waveform, or type exact times. Click Play selection to check.
- Add a fade in or out if you like, choose MP3 or WAV, and click Trim and save.
Trimming tips
Zoom in on the edges by typing times to the hundredth of a second, and listen to the selection before saving. A short fade of 0.5–2 seconds avoids clicks at hard cuts and makes clips sound polished, which is ideal for ringtones and intros.
The audio is decoded and re-encoded in your browser. MP3 at 192 kbps is transparent for most listening; choose WAV if you will edit the clip further. Very long files take more memory, so trim hour-long recordings on a computer rather than a phone.
Only use music and recordings you have the right to edit and share.

Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I open?
MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC in most browsers; Safari may not open OGG.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Will trimming reduce quality?
Saving as WAV is lossless; MP3 re-encodes the clip, which is inaudible at 192 kbps or higher for most people.
Can I make a ringtone?
Yes. Trim to 30 seconds or less with short fades and save as MP3 (or convert to M4R with other software for iPhone).
