Volume Booster — Make Audio Louder
Fix recordings that are too quiet. Boost or reduce the volume in decibels, or normalize to a consistent peak level, with a built-in limiter that prevents harsh clipping. Preview before you save.

How to make audio louder
- Drop an audio file. The current peak level is shown.
- Choose Normalize to raise the loudest point to a target (−1 dBFS is a safe default), or set a fixed change in decibels.
- Preview, then save as MP3 or WAV.
Decibels, peaks and clipping
Every 6 dB roughly doubles the signal level, and about 10 dB sounds twice as loud. Digital audio cannot go above 0 dBFS; pushing past it causes clipping, which sounds harsh and distorted.
Normalizing raises the whole file until its loudest peak reaches your target, so nothing clips. If the file has one very loud spike, normalization may not make it much louder overall; a fixed boost with the limiter turned on will raise quiet parts more, while the limiter gently tames the peaks.
Boosting also raises background noise and hiss. For very noisy recordings, a dedicated noise-reduction tool will help more than volume alone.

Frequently asked questions
How much louder can I make it?
Up to +30 dB, though more than about +12 dB usually makes background noise obvious.
What does normalize mean?
Adjusting the volume so the loudest peak hits a target level, usually just below 0 dBFS.
Will boosting cause distortion?
Not with the limiter on; it keeps peaks below 0 dBFS.
Is my file uploaded?
