How to crop a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF. The first page appears with a crop box.
  2. Drag the box or its corners around the area to keep, or tick Auto-detect margins.
  3. Choose which pages to crop and click Crop and download.

How PDF cropping works

Cropping sets each page's visible area (its crop box) without deleting content, so text stays selectable and searchable, and the file size barely changes. Content outside the box is hidden in viewers and when printing.

Because the hidden content is still inside the file, cropping is not a secure way to remove sensitive information. To truly remove content, convert the pages to images with our PDF to JPG tool after cropping, or use a dedicated redaction tool.

Auto-detect looks for the edges of non-white content on the preview page and adds a small padding. Rotated pages are handled correctly: the box you see on screen is what you get.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce file size?

Not much. Cropping hides the area outside the box but does not delete it.

Can I crop only some pages?

Yes: all pages, odd or even pages, or just the preview page.

Is cropping secure for removing information?

No. Hidden content remains in the file; flatten to images or redact instead.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
