Video Compressor — Reduce Video Size
Make videos small enough to email, upload or send in a chat. Choose a quality level and resolution; the video is re-encoded on your own device, faster than real time, with no upload.

Your video never leaves your device. Everything is processed in this browser tab: no upload, no server copy.
How to compress a video
- Drop a video onto the box or click "Choose video". MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV files work.
- Pick a compression level and a maximum resolution. Recommended at 720p suits most sharing; Strong at 480p makes the smallest files.
- Click "Compress video", preview the result, then click "Download video".
Why videos are so large, and how this shrinks them
Phones record at high bitrates, often 15 to 50 megabits per second for 1080p or 4K, so even a one-minute clip can be over 100 MB. That is far more detail than you need to watch a video on a phone or laptop. This tool decodes your video and encodes it again as an H.264 MP4 at a sensible bitrate for the resolution you choose. Recommended quality at 720p usually cuts the size by 70 to 95 percent while still looking good on any screen.
Lowering the resolution saves the most. A 4K video has nine times as many pixels as 720p, and 720p is plenty for chat apps, email and most websites. Each level also lowers the audio bitrate a little; choose "Remove sound" for screen recordings or clips that do not need it.
Fast and private
Compression uses WebCodecs, the video encoder built into modern browsers, which uses your device’s graphics hardware when it can. Most videos compress several times faster than they play. Because nothing is uploaded, there are no file size limits beyond your device’s memory, and private recordings never leave your computer.
Common limits to aim for: email attachments are usually limited to 20–25 MB, Discord to 10 MB without Nitro, and WhatsApp to about 100 MB for videos.

Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is processed by your own browser using its built-in video encoder. Nothing is sent to a server, so private videos stay private.
How much smaller will my video get?
Phone videos often shrink by 70 to 95 percent at Recommended quality and 720p. Videos that are already compressed, such as downloads from streaming sites, change less.
Will the quality drop?
Some fine detail is lost, as with any compression, but Recommended quality looks clean on phones and laptops. Use Light for the best quality.
What format is the compressed video?
An MP4 file with H.264 video, which plays on every phone, computer, TV and website.
Which browsers does it work in?
Recent Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop and Android, Safari 26 on Mac and iPhone, and Firefox 130 or newer on desktop. These browsers include the WebCodecs video encoder the tool uses.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit. Very long or 4K videos need more memory; if your browser runs out, try a lower resolution or trim the video first.
